Car Hauling - Taking Delivery
When it comes time to take delivery of your car after hauling, you'll need to do a few things to conclude the transport process.
Being prepared in advance will help you have successful car shipping experience.
- If you transported the car overseas and are importing it back to your home, have the car hauling service or carrier alert you to your car's impending arrival as far in advance as practical so you can arrange to get it through US customs. See Importing Vehicles for details.
- If at all possible, take delivery of your car only in the day time so you can see any damages and get good pictures of any damages that were done to the car while it was being hauled.
- Bring your copy of the the pre-shipping inspection report and the attached pictures that were taken during your car shipping service preparations or get them to your designate. This should help you immediately settle disagreements over whether any damage pre-existing shipping. Take additional photos, preferably with a date display, of any damage present post-hauling.
- Check the post-transport condition report carefully with the car hauling service's representative to make sure you agree. If damage was missed in the report, point it out and make sure it's included in the report. Have the inspector sign the document before you complete delivery.
- File any insurance claims as soon as possible under the car shipping insurance coverage and with your own car insurance company. Find out if there are any special forms you need in order to file these claims promptly and whom you should contact for follow up.
